Vituperate

[vi-TOO-puh-rayt]
Phonetic (Standard) IPA: (Standard beer reference here)

Popcast Phonetic: “vie-TOO-pa-rate” — said with the same energy as someone realizing the popcorn’s burned and the pizza delivery is late.

Verb

to verbally unleash chaos; to criticize with such passion it deserves its own reaction GIF.

EXPLANATION

To vituperate is to go full verbal IMAX. This isn’t mild feedback — this is Gordon Ramsay meets WWE promo, delivered with hands, eyebrows, and a complete disregard for indoor voices. If words could throw popcorn, this would be it, if you smell what the Rock is cooking.

ORIGIN

Late 15th century, from Latin vituperare (“to blame, to scold”). Which proves that even in medieval times, someone was absolutely losing it over burnt bread and bad decisions.

EXAMPLE

When the reboot ignored 40 years of canon, fans didn’t complain — they vituperated like Comic-Con security just confiscated their pizza.

HOW TO USE

Use vituperate when someone’s rant has:

  • volume
  • passion
  • witnesses
  • and at least one person slowly backing away with a bowl of popcorn in the background
